Spybot Search & Destroy's scanning engine is noticeably faster than other Anti-spyware products.
There are different ways to search for spies. One would be to search the complete registry and harddisk for suspicious entries and files. That can take a lot of time.

Spybot Search & Destroy takes advantage of the fact that all spies have to anchor themselves at a few places over the system to get active. It starts to search at this places, following the information gathered there to catch the whole spy.

Once the updates are installed, click on the "Search & Destroy" button on the left pane to open the main scan screen.
Now click on the "Check for problems" button on the left pane to start the scanning.

Spybot Search & Destroy will start to find the malware in your system. Take a look at the program's taskbar. It contains some useful information. On the bottom left you can see Spybot's running the botchecks. Note the figure 19659/22683, the upper part shows the current botcheck performed by the program out ot the total number of botchecks available shown on the lower part. Here it means that using this definition file spybot is able to detect upto 22683 pests (including usage tracks) and currently it is performing botcheck for Z-Demon which is 19659th in its file.

Once the scan is completed Spybot Search & Destroy will show the summary screen.
The name and the number detected locations of malware are shown in the right pane and the total number of problems found and the time taken to run the scan is shown in the status bar.

You can view the full path to the detected entries by expanding the +plus sign beside the name of the Malware.

Click the "Fix selected problems" button on the right pane to process the detected malware.

By default Spybot Search & Destroy is set to create a System Restore Point in compatible operating systems, wait till one is created and Spybot Search & Destroy proceeds to the next srcreen.

Click "Yes" in the following confirmation screen.

Depending on the detected locations, Spybot Search & Destroy may require running at the next startup to clean the associated files in use. Click "Yes" to let Spybot Search & Destroy run on your next startup.

The final summary screen shows the total number of problems fixed and the total number of problems that could not be fixed without a restart. Click "OK". Close Spybot S & D and restart your PC.
